2014 In Review

"Let new beginnings signify a new chapter filled with pages of success and happiness, written by the ink of hard work and intelligence."

2 0 1 4 In Review

This year our company has grown. The proof of this growth comes not only in the number of our staff, but in the quality of our work, the opportunities given to our employees, and the bonds built in our community.

Thank you to our employees, clients, customers,
and every single person that helped our company grow this year.
Below are just a few of the milestones accomplished by Strittmatter Companies this year.

We have increased our staff by over 30% this year.

***

We introduced ten new Mack trucks to our fleet.

***

Seven Knolls (Laurel, MD) is one of four land development sites that we own. This year, we completed Parcel C, which is the foundation for the residential portion of the project. When completed, the land will include residential buildings, and commercial buildings including a hotel.

***

We revamped our office with new computers, new chairs, and got all of our software up to date.

***

We joined the Twitter universe and began building our social media profiles to be able to communicate with our employees and network with people in the industry.
We also rebuilt our website to include a whole new design.

***

We acquired a lot of new iron for the field this year including; a new John Deere 350 excavator, a 755K track loader, a new Sakai Roller, and five new 650 Bobcats.

***

Cinder Bed Road Bus Division, a current project of ours, was selected as the winner of the Outstanding Contractor category of the 2014 Land Conservation Award Program. Every year, Fairfax County selects certain projects in the land development industry that have demonstrated excellence in protecting downstream properties and natural resources during the land development process. Two of our foremen, Gerald Schryer and Robert Riddick, worked on clearing the land, hauling dirt offsite, as well as some onsite filling at this project.

***

In an effort to keep our employees comfortable, happy, and most importantly; safe, we provided everyone with ANSI 3 florescent, reflective gear for all seasons.

***

At our Annual Holiday Party this year, we celebrated our employees achievements including 10, 15, and 20 year anniversaries with the company.
10 Years: Rebecca Menejia, William Hernandez, and Miguel Osorio
15 Years: Josh Packard, Dennis Boswell, and Bo Morsell
20 Years: Paul Corum and Laura Killen

Congratulations and thank you for your dedication and hard work!

Wishing our friends and family a successful and joyous New Year!

Rosslyn

From left to right: Joe Grim, Jose Gonzalez, and Juan Cruz-Amaya.

Job Name: Rosslyn Central
General Contractor: Clark Construction
Foremen Primarily on the Job: Gerald Schryer and Joe Grim

You might have noticed a gigantic hole filled with huge iron machines working from sun-up until sundown as you exit the metro from the Orange Line at the Rosslyn stop. Since March of this year, we have been working on clearing over 100 feet of dirt from the space between N. Moore Street and N. Lynn Street. To help you put it into perspective; the hole is only sixty feet from the metro trains that run below it.
Any day of the week you will see Strittmatter logo'd excavators, bobcats, dozers, and of course, dump trucks hauling dirt from the depths of the city. You might even occasionally hear a loud BOOM. Not to worry, that's just a choreographed blast that happens underneath layers of dirt. As you can imagine, there are rocks, granite, and hard material that needs to be broken up before it can come out, This is where the blasting comes into play. It can happen anytime during the week and the entire procedure lasts only about five minutes.
Our services are only needed at Rosslyn Central for about another three months. From then, the residential buildings that we are making room for will begin to be built. We will continue work adjacent to Rosslyn Central at our project, Rosslyn Office Building. Stay tuned for that job featured in the blog post: Rosslyn Part Two.

Dispatch

Our first post shout-out goes to our dispatch crew and Eddie (our operations coordinator for rental equipment). These guys take care of assigning our employees, equipment, and trucks to job sites based on the needs of the foreman and what has to get accomplished the next day. Jesse, Eddie, Anthony, and Conor make up a team that can memorize your phone number faster than you can say "Where am I working tomorrow?".

Welcome!

Welcome to our blog!

We'll start by giving you a little insight on what we do...

Strittmatter Companies was established in 1978 by Charles W. Strittmatter. He set it up to provide equipment rentals with operators. In 1996, we expanded our services to include excavation and demolition.

Now, we are a leader in full-service site-work in the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia areas. We offer excavation, demolition, and equipment rentals for government, commercial, and residential construction projects.

With over 125 different types of trucks and equipment and well-experienced staff, we are capable of handling all of you site-work needs no matter the size or time-frame of the project.

Stay tuned for more blog posts about our jobs, our office, and our people!
